Bagpipes can make a particularly memorable addition to your special day.
Bagpipers have been entertaining guests at weddings, banquets and parties for centuries. Your guests will be taken by surprise when they hear the stirring and unique sound of the great Highland bagpipes marching into the Church and reception hall. Bagpipes have also been played at multi-ethnic weddings to the enjoyment of all.
What is the best time to have a Bagpiper play? It's really a personal choice, but please click on the headings below for a few suggestions from past performances:
Background music prior to the brides arrival
This is the most popular time to have the piper play. Whether your guests are due to arrive at the same time (exiting bus, boarding a boat, etc) or whether their arrival is slightly staggered, the powerful sounds of the bagpipes can create a wonderful sense of ceremony and occasion.
During the processional - Pipe in the bride and bridesmaids
Once all of the guests are in position, the bagpipes can play from the rear of the Church / venue or perhaps have the piper march down the aisle ahead of the bride.
The Bridal March, Highland Cathedral or Flower of Scotland are some of the popular choices for the processional
During the signing of the register
Background music can add a lovely atmosphere during this brief interlude, while the newlyweds are signing the register
During the recessional - Pipe out the newly weds
Have the piper playing while you and your guests exit, for a jubilant finale to your wedding ceremony.
After your ceremony, during congratulations and photos.
It is common for the bride and groom to request the piper to accompany them for photos, as the highland uniform can provide a vivid texture to your memories... particularly whilst dressed in the No1 Military Uniform.
The piper can continue to play until the congratulations and photos are complete and then play a fast and lively tune while the bridal couple prepare to depart.
Pipe the newlyweds into their reception
This is the most popular time for bagpipers to play other than at the wedding ceremony.
Gain the attention of your friends and family with the powerful sound of the bagpipes heralding the entrance of the newly married couple.
A quick musical flourish before the speeches, or just prior to the cake-cutting can also be a great attention getter.
The most popular time to have the piper play is sometime after the food has been served, usually 2-3 hours into the reception. Don't be surprised to see your guests clapping and dancing to the pipe music!
